Hands-on cultural immersion held at Sentro Artista, Katipunan
Last June 7, 2025, Hibla Philippines brought the beauty of indigenous textile heritage to the heart of Katipunan with Binakol 101: Weave Your Way!—a hands-on workshop celebrating the storied Binakol weave.
Held at Sentro Artista, a hub for local creativity and collaboration, the session introduced participants to the mesmerizing Kusikos pattern—an iconic Binakol motif known for its hypnotic spirals symbolizing protection, motion, and balance. Attendees explored the art of weaving using beginner-friendly frame looms, learning techniques passed down through generations of Filipino artisans.
Binakol 101 forms part of Hibla's ongoing mission to make Philippine weaving more accessible, especially to younger generations and urban communities. With initiatives like this, Hibla hopes to keep ancestral knowledge alive—thread by thread, story by story.

Hibla Philippines joined forces with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) for a special Caring Cup session celebrating Filipino weaving heritage through a hands-on cultural experience. Held at CBTL's Tomas Morato branch, the event brought together curious beginners and cultural enthusiasts for a relaxing and meaningful afternoon of learning and weaving.
Participants were introduced to Philippine weaving traditions through Hibla's Mini Loom Weaving Workshop, where they created their own handwoven piece while sipping coffee and enjoying meaningful conversations. The workshop highlighted the value of heritage crafts in today's world and made the often-intimidating practice of weaving more accessible.
With each participant weaving their own story into fabric, the event was more than just a workshop—it was a quiet act of preservation, community, and creativity.

Hibla Philippines proudly represented the country at the Philippine Booth of Seatrade Cruise Global (@seatradecruise), held last April 8–10, 2025, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) (@phtourismamericas @tourism_phl).
At the heart of our participation were live weaving demonstrations and interactive workshops—bringing the artistry and heritage of Philippine textiles to a global audience. Through each loop, pull, and knot, guests experienced firsthand the stories and techniques behind our vibrant weaving traditions.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our passionate facilitators, Teacher Kaedee (@kaedeefythe) and Teacher Lex(@ja.balaguer), for sharing their craft with skill, warmth, and pride.
From warp to weft, every thread woven was a celebration of culture, creativity, and community—a powerful reminder that tradition can travel, inspire, and connect across borders.

In celebration of National Women's Month, the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. successfully hosted the Weave Your Way: A Mini Loom Weaving Workshop on 14 March 2025 at the Philippine Embassy. The event brought together members of the ASEAN Spouses Circle (ASC) in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the role of women in cultural preservation and the arts and Filipino weaving traditions through hands-on weaving experience.
The workshop was led by Ms. Romae Chanice "Nice" Marquez, founder of Hibla Philippines and a passionate advocate for preserving and modernizing Philippine weaving traditions. Hibla was one of the winners of our Department of Science and Technology winners during the 2023 Women-Helping-Women: Innovating Social Enterprises (WHWise) National Pitching Competition. Through initiatives such as skill-based training, sustainable production practices, and innovative technology, including the development of a website application with garment-customization technologies under the DOST program, Hibla ensures that its artisans thrive in both local and global markets.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Maria Lourdes Romualdez, spouse of Philippine Ambassador to the United States His Excellency Jose Manuel Romualdez, highlighted the importance of weaving as a symbol of unity and cultural heritage. "Just as individual threads intertwine to create a strong and beautiful fabric, our shared traditions bring us closer as a community. Weaving has long been a cornerstone of cultural identity across ASEAN, carrying with it the stories, artistry, and resilience of our ancestors." she said.
The event was attended by key members of the ASEAN Spouses Circle (ASC), including 1) Mrs. Lui Soo Fen, ASC President and spouse of Singaporean Ambassador to the United States H.E. Lui Tuck Yew; 2) Ms. Chuliepote Isarankura Na Ayudhaya, ASC Vice President and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy; 3) Ms. Khaeriah Zaehera Abd Kayyum, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia; 4) Ms. Aye Mya Mya Khaing, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; 5) Datin Rafiah Arif, spouse of Brunei Ambassador to the United States H.E. Dato Paduka Haji Serbini bin Haji Ali; 6) Madam Tran Thi Bich Van, spouse of Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States H.E. Last February 25, we had the incredible opportunity to bring Filipino weaving traditions to the heart of Las Vegas through the Weave Your Way Workshop at SOHN in the Arts District.
Led by Hibla Founder Nice Marquez, this hands-on session introduced participants of all ages to the basics of Philippine weaving, using a frame loom to create their own woven pieces.
More than just a workshop, this was a moment of cultural connection, where we honored the craftsmanship of our indigenous weavers and shared the rich history embedded in every thread.
